I like the contrast of the "silver snow like a big white pillow""
to the velvet blossom heads with "their green fragile light legs"
I imagine it must be difficult in translation to capture rythm or rhyme...

You are right, always the original is the easier version to write, because the words flow more naturally. In this case it was English, and I translated it into Hungarian only twenty years later.
However, the Hungarian translation also is beautiful!
